Recently, I faced the unexpected loss of a beloved mentor. Even though they had their affairs meticulously organized, it served as a poignant reminder that many still leave their personal matters unresolved. The passing of some influential people without proper wills resonates with this reality. Unfortunately, I know too many who left this world without a will, leaving their families to grapple with the fallout.

If you own a business, it is crucial to have a will, a trust, and a solid succession plan in place. Ensure that whoever is designated to take over your business is well-equipped and trained to manage it effectively. You’ve poured your heart and soul into your enterprise; don’t let it slip away due to lack of preparation.

Some have navigated the complexities of probate, while others passed with a will, and some had everything arranged so that their affairs were seamless upon their passing. Many focus solely on medical wills, but if you possess assets and/or debts, it’s essential to consult with an experienced lawyer about your options for your business after you’re gone.

Unfortunately, death is an inevitable part of life, and we all must face it. However, we can ease the burden and stress on our loved ones left behind by planning ahead. If you own a business, please seek out a lawyer’s expertise. Inquire about free consultations, as many attorneys offer this valuable service. Don’t delay in getting your affairs in order. Visit your local or state bar association to find a reputable, knowledgeable lawyer who can assist you.
